From a zero start this online professional services app used content marketing to increase its reach and gain organic search placement.
Initially I was called in to write a few blog posts for their site to beef it up a bit.
The client isn’t massive and had only a limited budget and so they needed to make sure that they spent their money wisely.
We opted for a slow burn approach, posting twice a week, every week around a series of defined keywords.

The company works in a niche industry and so the volume is never large, this means that keywords need to be thought about carefully.
The company is seasonal and during the Christmas break we carried out a review of the results and refreshed the marketing plan.
I used related long-tail keywords to target less obvious subjects.
I also did a competitor analysis and looked for gaps that weren’t being exploited.
This meant that with a low spend and relatively low posting frequency we could capture some great related positions.
We also produced some excellent content that they used as paid featured posts and as the centre for an Adwords campaign.

The Results
Within four months the site was ranking strongly for it’s target keywords and after 9 months they had 9 keywords ranking in the first three positions on Google.
Their two target keywords were sitting at number 1
And they had a further 10 keywords in positions 4-10 on the first page of Google.
The company had some excellent assets that were long-lived meaning that the content they had paid for would continue to bring in visitors for a long time after.
The results were excellent and the total cost of the campaign didn’t break the bank.
I’m pleased to say that I continue to write for these guys and they are one of my favourite customers.
